More about this story
As of 2009, there were 217 films with Dracula in a lead role, and the character has become one of the most influential fictional creations in popular culture. The most contentious adaptation was undoubtely 'Nosferatu' by F.W. Murnau in 1922. Murnau adapted without permission, and Stoker's widow Florence began a lengthy court battle which resulted in every copy of the classic film being destroyed. Luckily one copy did survive, and we can enjoy one of the most imaginative adaptations of Stoker's work.
