The Liberty Boys
This area was where the Liberty Boys were based. French weavers fleeing persecution, they settled in the Liberties and soon formed a large and extremely violent gang. The origin of their feud with the Ormond Boys is unknown, yet the animosity lasted 70 years, from 1720 to 1790. Here acclaimed poet Colm Keegan tells about the one time they both came together with a common purpose. Colm is an excellent poet and a collection of his work is available here: http://salmonpoetry.com/details.php/?ID=258&a=219.
