The Gap in the Map
In 1597 an explosion of 140 gunpowder barrels ripped part of the city apart and changed the shape of Dublin for years to come. Ciaran Wallace, historian and tour guide, tells the fascinating tale of stupidity and incompetence that killed 1% of the city's population.

More about Wood Quay
Wood Quay became a site of great controversy in 1979 when archaeologists and historians marched in protest to halt the building of Dublin Civic offices on the quay. The quay was formerly the centre of Viking life in Dublin and a number of interesting archaeological finds had been discovered in the area, promising a huge wealth of artifacts and a unique insight into Dublin's history. Sadly the protests were unsuccessful and the civic offices built over the area. For more info check out ComeHereToMe's article on the protests http://comeheretome.com/2010/07/…
