More about Dublin Castle

Dublin Castle has been in use since 1204. Throughout the years of British rule it abounded with many stories. In 1592 Red Hugh O Donnel, the 15 year old son of an Irish chief, made a daring escape from his imprisonment in the records tower, overpowering his gaoler with Art O'Neill and sliding down sewage pipes. Art died in the wicklow mountains, but Hugh survived (minus two toes lost to frostbite). Each year on 6th January a group re-tread the path of the two men. The room Christiaan is in, is used for the presidential inaugurations.
