More about this story
'On Raglan Road' was later famously recorded by Luke Kelly based on a suggestion of Kavanagh's. The poem is based around his infatuation with Hilda Moriarty, a beautiful young woman who the poet fell for in 1944, despite being nearly twice her age. When Kavanagh died in November 1967, Hilda sent a wreath of red roses in the form of an H.
