Kathleen Lynn was a lifelong suffragette, labour activist and nationalist, Lynn was a member of the Irish Citizen Army and chief medical officer during the 1916 Easter Rising. She was the Commanding Officer at City Hall garrison in 1916, and imprisoned in Killmainham jail for her role in the Rising. After her release from prison, she was elected as a TD for Sinn Fein but chose not to take her seat and instead established St Ultan's, the first infant hospital in Dublin and started the process of eradicating TB.
